Fireplace tool set generally consists of a poker for tending the fire, a broom and shovel for cleaning out the ashes. Many fireplace tool sets have a tong which is used for lifting and rearranging burning logs. Most fireplace tool sets are made of wrought iron. Fireplace brushes or brooms come in two styles. The fireplace tampico brush is resistant to heat. Tampico bristles are obtained trom the agave plant which grows in Mexico. The other style fireplace broom is a corn broom, the bristles come from corn stalks. Most commonly used is the tampico brush. Many wrought iron fireplace tool sets use the corn style broom. Fireplace tongs are available in two styles. The scissor type and the claw. The scissor tong features two handles the shaft is connected in the middle and there are two prongs at the end to grab the log. The claw tong features three "fingers" used to grab the firewood.
